Obituary

A Homecoming Celebration for Mr. Abdur Rahim Abdullah 'Mack' (aka Curtis McFarland, Sr.) of Tampa, Florida who passed away, Wednesday April 27, 2016, will be held on Saturday, May 7th, 4:00 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Bro. Jarvis El- Amin, officiating. Abdur was born September 16, 1935 in Orlando, Florida to the late Handsome and Minnie (Siplin) McFarland. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War. After honorably serving his country he met and married his faithful wife of 57 years, Ella. He moved to Rochester N.Y. in 1965 where he became a Master Barber and owned several other small businesses including, Mack's 'Steak and Take' in Rochester, NY. He moved to Tampa, in 1987 and was in his 47th year of his career that he loved so much. He owned 'Mack's Barbershop' and served faithfully his customers until he was no longer able to continue. He also loved watching the news, reading, discussing philosophies, fishing and serving the customers of his profession, which gave him a great feeling of accomplishment. Abdur was credited for influencing, helping and giving direction to many people with his knowledge and advice. He was a great family member, had a great soul and a friend, mentor and icon in every community he resided in; he was a great man! He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Curtis McFarland 'Chip', Jr.; 4 brothers, Floyd, Tommy, Sylvester and Carl McFarland and 2 sisters, Ida Smith and Shirley Peterson. He leaves to cherish his devoted and loving wife, Ella McFarland; children, Aisha McFarland-Dyer, San Diego, CA, Waleed McFarland, Tampa, FL, Lanny Nelson, Melbourne, FL and Nadja 'Nikki' Justice, Rochester, NY; brothers, James 'Sonny' McFarland, Titusville, FL and William 'Micheal' McFarland, Tampa, FL; sisters, Barbara McAlister, Rochester, NY and Glenda Thomas (Hezekiah), Tampa, FL; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; special cousin, Fritz Spence (Joyce) and best friend, Harold Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces, other cousins, relatives, friends and customers. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home one hour prior to the service on Saturday, May 7th from 3:00-4:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Saturday for the services.
