Alfred Glenn
Carter
November 26, 1948 – July 8, 2025
Proud Vietnam Veteran
November 26, 1948 – July 8, 2025
Alfred G. Carter—known to most simply as "Al"—was born in Greenville, Alabama, on November 26, 1948, to the late Fred and Louise Carter. Growing up in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, he proudly took on the role of big brother to Melissa and Nadine. From the start, Al had a knack for tinkering—whether it was building engines with his dad, racing slot cars, or later assembling computers just for fun. After a short time at the steel mill, Al was drafted into the U.S. Air Force in May 1968, following in his father's footsteps. He went on to serve two tours in Vietnam and retired honorably as a Master Sergeant in 1990. His military career carried him around the globe, and with his usual humor he liked to call himself "The Black 007." Even after retirement, his love for aviation kept him close to the skies while working with Boeing. Al was a man of curiosity, conversation, and charisma. He loved music, cars, history, and people—especially people. Whether you were a lifelong friend or a stranger in line at the grocery store, chances are you'd walk away having heard one of his stories.
He leaves behind a legacy of service, laughter, and family. Al is survived by his wife, Catherine (Burns) Carter; his children Alfred Jr., Jeramie, Julian (LaShaun), Jerome (Nadja), Alexander, and Cameron; his sisters Melissa (Reggie) Woodard and Nadine Carter; grandchildren Letina "Chanell," Brooklyn, Malachi, Victoria "Vicky," Franchesca "Frankie," and Julian "Blake"; and great-grandchildren Ka'Loni, Kairo, Romi, and Lyric. He is also remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a band of beloved USAF brothers and sisters who will forever cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Louise Carter, and his best friend and fellow USAF brother, Frank Jones.
Al passed away unexpectedly on July 8, 2025, at the James A. Haley Veteran's Hospital in Tampa, Florida. His wit, loyalty, and service will not be forgotten.
