Obituary

Homegoing celebration for Mr. Alfred Smith, Jr. of Tampa who passed away on Tuesday, December 25th will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday December 29th at Bible Based Fellowship Church, 8718 N. 46th Street, pastor Earl Mason, officiating.Interment will be in Florida National Cemetery. Mr. Alfred Smith Jr., departed this Earthly Life on December 25, 2012. Brother Alfred Smith Jr. was born September 8,1950 in Thomas County, Georgia to Alfred Sr.(deceased) and Dorothy Smith. Alfred was the 2nd oldest of 8 children. He was baptized at an early age, at the Springhill Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs under the leadership of Reverend James Scantling. Alfred faithfully attended Sunday School, Baptist Training Union, and church services. Alfred Smith Jr. attended public school in Hillsborough County Schools of Tampa, Florida. While in High School he was in the ROTC Program. Upon graduation from high school he enlisted in the United States Army where he served from 1969 - 1990. After returning from his tour of duty he moved to Valdosta, Georgia. He worked for Lowndes County and was affiliated with the AMVETS Post 607 and American Legion 503. His hobbies consisted of fishing, playing the guitar and repairing small engine equipment. Alfred always had a great sense of humor and a kindred spirit. He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories ; his wife of 40 years, Betty; 3 children, Cheryl D Smith; Tonia (Damon) Butler; of Tampa; Kenric Smith, of Savannah, Georgia. Grandchildren: Dyrel Smith, Dominque, Taylor,and Jacob Butler. Great granddaughter Skye Smith. 4 sisters; Mildred (Theron) Williams of Tampa; Gwendolyn (Lawerence) Williams of Atlanta, Georgia; Shirlene ( John) Gomez of Atlanta; Talicia Smith of Tampa,; 4 brothers; Greogory (Alethea) Smith; of Tampa, Douglas Smith; Shawn Smith;Floyd (Barbara ) Mitchell 2 sisters-in-laws; lethia Rome of Valdosta, Georgia ; BarbaraAlexander of Tampa, Fla; 1 brother in law; Earnest Woods of Tampa Florida, 7 Aunts; Margaret Smith Lewis of Tampa; Mae Ola Smith of Tampa;Dorothy Smith (Lincoln) Lumpkin of Meigs, Georgia; Essie Wesley Curtis of Albion, Michgan; Margaret Mitchell; Linda Faye Williamson of Atlanta, Ga; Lillie Oliver of Pehlam, Ga;4 uncles; Carnell (Angela) Mitchell; William (Joyce) Mitchell; Ricky Mitchell; 1 adopted brother; Robert Lynn Wesley of Flint, Michigan. 1 God Brother; Westley ( Gabriella) Bryant. He was blessed with many nieces; special Sandra Kier (Curtis), nephews, and cousins. Special Cousins; Anette Gibson Rawls; Michael Daniels; Brandon and host of close family and friends.The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, December 28th from 5 to 8 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
