Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Alfred Givens, Sr., (Chief Petty Officer, Rtd) of 5120 Puritan Circle, who passed away Thursday, November 25, 2010, will be held Thursday, December 2nd, at 11:00 a.m., Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Ave., Bushnell, Florida with Minister, Eric Doss, officiating. Interment will follow. Alfred was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. James Garfield Givens, (Frances) on December 10, 1927 in Tampa, Florida. Alfred attended the public schools of Hillsborough County. He completed his education in the U.S. Coast Guard in Business. He served his country for an extended period of time, serving in World War II. Alfred received many medals and was honorably discharged and will be missed by his comrades. Alfred received Christ at an early age and was affiliated with St. Paul A.M.E. Church. His hobbies were writing, reading and golf. Alfred was preceded in death by his, grandparents, Sandy and Hagar Bowles of Charleston, S.C.; parents, James Garfield and Frances Givens of Tampa, Florida; sons, Alfred Givens, Jr., Fredrick Givens and Michael Givens; brothers, James Garfield Givens, Jr. and Samuel Ward Givens and other relatives. He is survived by his children, Arthur Givens and wife, Cynthia, Kenneth Givens, Keith Givens, Karl Givens and Deborah Givens (Assiya Id-Deen); grandchildren, great grandchildren; sisters, Lee O' Mastin and Martha E. Bramble both of Poughkeepsie, New York, Frances G. Davis of Tampa, Florida and Mary E. Bynes of Houston, Texas; aunts; uncles, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, friends and neighbors; a devoted, caregiver and special friend, Rosa Baldwin; the Givens, Jones, Mastin, Bramble, Sweeting, Stone, Brigham and Davis families. The viewing will be held on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m.
