Alice
Boone-Bowers
March 31, 1932 – May 14, 2015
Homegoing celebration for Mrs. Alice Boone Bowers formerly of Tampa, FL who passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2015 will be held on Saturday, May 23rd, 10:00 a.m. at New Mt. Zion M.B. Church, 2511 E. Columbus Drive, Rev. Larry L. Roundtree II pastor with Rev. Dr. Dwight Pollock, officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Alice was born on March 31, 1932 in Marianna, Florida to Clarence and Catherine Boone. The Lord ushered her healthily into this life to join her siblings. From a very young age, she accepted Christ and performed dutifully in His service. In her formative years, Alice was a member of the local Popular Springs Baptist Church in her home in Marianna, FL. Following the birth of her children, Alice moved with her family to New York and continued her service to Christ and the community at the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Niagara Falls. In 1979, Alice remarried and became the wife of the late John Bowers and moved to Tampa. She joined New First Union M.B. Church and later joined her beloved New Mt. Zion M.B. Church. During this time, Alice became a loved and cherished employee of Oak Park Elementary School, where she enriched and nourished the lives and souls of both the children and her co-workers for 15 glorious years. After the passing of her son, David, Alice moved to Elk Grove, CA to be with her daughter. There, she continued the Lord's work as an usher at Antioch Progressive Church, returning to her congregation, her friends, and her family in both Niagara Falls and Tampa often. After a long life lived in the service of Christ and her loved ones, Alice returned to the Lord on May 14, 2015. While her presence on this earth will be sorely missed, her spirit will forever remain in the words of wisdom that she passed along to every life she touched, in the recipes she handed down to loved ones, in the songs that many of us will remember her singing, and in the fond memories of her that each of us holds close to our hearts. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Harris; grandchildren, Fedolia, Brandon, Constance, Serena Roberts (Bob) and Carmen; great-grandchildren, Kennedy, David, and Alexander; sisters, Mary, Hattie, Adell, Verdell and Annie; brother, Clarence; 2 nieces she regarded as daughters, Elizabeth Brown (Clifford) and Katherine Kennedy (Willie); daughter-in-law, Linda Chambers; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other relations, close friends and her many church families. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, May 22nd from 5-8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
