Homegoing services for Mrs. Alice E. Hicks of Tampa, who passed away on Monday, July 16, 2012, will be held Wednesday, July 25th, 11:00 am Greater Friendship M.B. Church, 3325 E. Emma Street, Tampa, FL 33610, with Rev. Madison Murray, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, Tampa FL. Alice Elizabeth Ford Hicks born in Long Island, New York on February 13, 1938. She was united in holy matrimony to Johnnie Hicks in Cutchogue, New York and to this union was born four sons and one daughter. She was educated in the school system of New York. She loved living for Christ and served faithfully until her demise. Mrs. Hicks has resided in Tampa, FL for 57 years. She worked at Verizon (formerly known as GTE) as a telephone operator for over 20 or more years and retired in 1993. Most recently she worked as a part-time receptionist at St. Joseph Hospital until her health begin to fail. She was a dedicated member of Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of the choir. Alice was a former member of Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Tampa FL, she loved to sing and years ago she loved sewing, decorating, making flower arrangements, and baking. She loved her family dearly and life and she always kept her faith in God and a positive attitude. She was preceded in death by parents, John Daniel and Mary Catherine Ford; husband Johnnie Hicks; daughter Melonie Ann Hicks; sister Mary "Sister" Riddick; brothers John Ford and Leroy Ford. She leaves to cherish fond and loving memories, Sons, Johnnie "Cappy" Hicks, Jr., Danny Lee Hicks (Lorene), Charles Hicks and Allen Hicks, Tampa, FL; granddaughters, Tameka Buie and Tericka Glenn, Tampa, FL; grandsons, Russell (Alex) Gaines, Allen Hicks, Jr., Joshua Hicks, Gregory Hicks, Carlos Hicks, Reginald Butler, and Connell Hicks, Tampa, FL.;great-grandchildren: Candace Crawford, Eylexis Everett, Zaderrin Glenn, Diamond Smith, Dajuan Smith, Jr, Alexis Gaines, Brittany Chamber, Zania Buie and Myelle Atkin, Tampa, FL; and great-great-grandson, Legend Lillie, Tampa, FL; sisters: Ruth Hubbard (James), Peconic, NY and Lillian Jones, Riverhead, NY; brothers: George Ford (Brenda), Jamaica, NY; sisters-in-law, Amanda Hicks, Tampa, FL and Beatrice Hicks, Birmingham, AL; and a host of nieces and nephews who live in New York, Connecticut, Florida, Alabama and other places; other relatives and friends, Mrs. Gussie Alford, lifelong friend. The viewing will be held Tuesday at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel from 4 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Wednesday at 10:45 a.m.
