A homegoing celebration for Mrs. Alice Marie Watson Sumes of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018, will be held on Saturday, April 21st, 2:00 p.m. at Holsey Temple CME Church, 3729 N. 15th Street, Presiding Elder Lionel Walker, officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Alice was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. John D. (Amanda) Watson. She entered into eternal rest at her home, she was 79. She was educated in Dade County public schools and Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She married her late husband, Elder Lawrence E. Sumes Sr. in 1960, served and fellowshipped throughout the C.M.E. Church Miami-Tampa District and reared four children in Tampa, FL. She retired in 1997 from the James A. Haley V.A. Hospital, Tampa, FL. Mrs. Sumes shall be remembered by her children, Alicia M. Sumes, Cynthia Sumes, Min. Lawrence Sumes, Jr. and John Sumes; one brother, Oliver Watson and wife, Henrietta; two sisters, Rose Cleare and Geneva Viveros;eight grandchildren, Eric McCount, Jr., Amanda Livingston, Samuel Livingston II, Sarah Sumes, Naomi Sumes, Joshua Whipple, Leilani Sumes and Jonaisah Hollinger; Ten nephews, Bernard Sumes, Sr., James Singleton, Jr., Lewis Singleton, Howard Singleton, Darryl Sumes, Earl Roach, Victor Neal, Elmer Watson, Jr., Tosky Sumes and Marcus Timothy; Ten nieces, Aurelia Miller, Florrie Jackson, Cecelia Singleton, Joyce Sumes, Vernay Johnson, Sharon Smith, Linda Roach, Deborah Lane, Sheena Watson and Annie Lou Watson. She leaves a host of great nephews, great nieces, cousins, relatives and friends. The visitation (closed casket) will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, April 20th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service. In lieu, of flowers please donate to her church.
