Obituary

A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Almas Jean Minor-Johnson of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2020 will be held Saturday, May 16th, 1:00 p.m. Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Ave. with Rev. Bartholomew Banks, of St. John Progressive M.B. Church, officiating. Almas Minor-Johnson was born August 6, 1950 to the late Clarence and Annie Mae Minor in Dooly County, Georgia. She attended the public Schools in Dooly County, Georgia and graduated from Vienna High School. At an early age she joined New Bethel Baptist Church in Dooly County, Georgia under the leadership of Rev. Pollip. After leaving Dooley County, Almas moved to Alabama for a short time. She moved to Rochester NY, and later retired after 24 years of service from Visiting Nurse Services. She joined Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Douglas Smith. She was united in marriage to Gerald Johnson. Later in life she moved to Tampa, Florida and joined St. John Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Bartholomew Banks, she joined two Usher Board. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Annie Mae Minor; husband, Gerald Johnson; 2 brothers, Charlie and Freddie Minor. She leaves to celebrate and cherish her precious memories with her 2 sons, Toran Minor of Rochester, New York and Courtney Minor (Sheika) of Charlotte, North Carolina; 5 grandchildren, Trayanna, Jerimani, Courtney, Jr., Cassidy and Conyae; 4 sisters, Juanita Higdon, Dorothy Williams of Tampa, Florida, Betty McGhee and Ruby Minor of Elko, Georgia; 2 brothers, John Henry Minor of Elko, Georgia and Willie Lumpkin (Beatrice) of Perry, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; 2 special friends, Melvina Warren of Rochester, New York and Janette Garland of Tampa, Florida. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, May 15th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The family will receive friends during the visitation.
