Homegoing services for Mr. Alto J. Pope, Jr. of 6406 42nd Street, who passed away, Tuesday, June 23, 2009, will be held, Wednesday, July 1st, 10:00 a.m., Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Bernard Smith, officiating. Interment will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. Alto was born August 2, 1951 to Mr. Alto (Maxine) Pope, Sr. in Pensacola, Florida. He graduated from high school in Pensacola and attended Pensacola Junior College and Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida. He did further studies, while serving in the United States Navy. He also was a student of Law in 1984. Alto was united in holy matrimony and to Elaine, and to this union they had one daughter, Katherine. Mr. Pope enjoyed watching movies, painting and playing Bingo. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired with a rank of E-4 from where he also served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his sister, Julia Pope and brother-in-law, Rev. Herman Pratt. He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Elaine I. Pope, children, Eric D. Bethea and Katherine V. Bethea; grandchildren, Tatyana Bethea, Erique Bethea, Rashawn Hill, Jazmen Bethea and Jaiden Bethea; parents, Alto, Sr. and Maxine Pope, brother, Edward Slaughter, Sr.; sister, Carolyn Pratt; aunt, Urla Pope; uncle, Rev. Curtis J. Pope (Anniss), nieces, Rita Dumas, Sylvia, Rocella, Marcella, Linda, Kanisha, Ashley, Jada and Monique Slaughter; nephews, Jack B. Griffin, Edward Slaughter, Ronell Stallworth, Truclarius, Juillian and Chris; friends, John Lee, Charlie Ware, Pearl Gooden, Aaron Tyler, Christine Myrick, Herbert Ware and Lennard Young; and a host of friends at James A. Haley Nursing Unit C. The remains will repose at Aikens Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 3oth, from 4 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the Chapel on Wednesday, July 1st at 9:45 a.m. for the service.
