Homegoing Celebration for Rev. Dr. Alvin Wydell Brown of Tampa who passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2015, will be held on Saturday, December 5th, 4:00 p.m. at Mt. Tabor M.B. Church, Pastor T.D. Leonard, officiating. The interment will be in Barlow Cemetery, Sallis, Mississippi. Rev. Dr. Alvin Wydell Brown was born in Lexington, Mississippi on January 15, 1975, to A.L. and Willie Faye Austin-Brown. Rev. Brown accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age at Corinthian M.B. Church in Waterloo, Iowa. He attended Eastside High School in Waterloo, Iowa before relocating to Dallas, TX. In the year of 1993 he graduated from Hillcrest High School and continued his education at Paul Quinn College. In the year of 1995 Rev. Brown was united in holy matrimony to Shawanda Broughton, in 1997 they relocated to Tampa, FL. As life progress in 2000, Rev. Brown accepted his call to preach the gospel. He was then licensed as a minister at Peace Progressive M.B. Church, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. W.F. Leonard. Rev. Brown served as the Brotherhood President, under the State Brotherhood President late Deacon Matthew Harris. Rev. Brown also served on the Media Ministry and as a Sunday school teacher for adults and youth during his Christian journey. In 2002, he and Shawanda Brown became the proud parents to Wanya M. Brown. He was employed at Portable Sanitation of Tampa, Inc., for thirteen years. Rev. Brown was pursuing his Bachelor's degree from Florida Theological Seminary in Lakeland, FL and was involved with the Hillsborough County local branch of N.A.A.C.P. and a member of Mount Pleasant 13 Masonic lodge. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Fred and Emma Lou Austin, Anthony and Hattie Mae Teague and Adell Erving. He leaves a devoted and loving wife, Shawanda Brown; son Wanya M. Brown; loving parents, A.L. and Willie Faye Austin-Brown; brothers, Marcus Jones, Marvin Brown and Kelvin Brown (Toya); brother-in-law, Pastor Alfonzo (Joai) Broughton; sisters-in-law, Narita Green (Dea. Wade), Bernadette Broughton (Siglenda); godmother, Prophetess Shirley Hagan; godsister, Queen Angela Leonard; close friends, Joe Dixon, James Ashe, Michael Simmons, Reverend Anthony Williams, Reverend Terry Slayton, Pastor Ricky Houston, Reverend Darren Watson, Reverend Larry D. Billue, Sr. Pastor Paul Buster, Mt. Pleasant 13 Masonic Lodge, Portable Sanitation of Tampa, Inc., staff and employees; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and close friends. The visitation will be held at Mt. Tabor M.B. Church, Friday December 4th from 6 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends during the wake hour from 6 to 7 p.m. and friends who would like to speak may do so during the wake. The friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
