Homegoing services for Mrs. Annie M. Thornton of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2012, will be held Saturday, July 14th, 11:00 a.m., at New Friendship M.B. Church, 3201 East Lake Avenue, Rev. H.L. Daniels pastor, with Rev. David Carson of New Beginnings Community Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow. Annie was born on June 21, 1946 in Lake City FL to the late Arthur Lee Bailey, Sr., and Annie Mae Clayton Bailey. Annie was a member of New Beginnings Community Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, shopping, traveling and bowling. Annie was a faithful and dedicated registered nurse for over 30 years. She assisted numerous patients in many institutions throughout her nursing career including Padgett nursing home. She graduated from Middleton High school class of 1965. She received her license practical nurse degree from Brewster Vocational School and her RN degree from St. Petersburg Jr. College. She was an active member of the Black Nurses Association and her Middleton High School class of 1965. She was preceded in death by parents, Rev. Arthur Lee Bailey, Sr. and Annie Mae Clayton Bailey; brother, Johnny Lee Bailey, Sr.; sister, Annie Campbell Jordan; cousin, Dorothea K. Jackson and friend, Gloria Williams. She leaves to cherish fond and loving memories with children, Steffanie Thornton, Trevor Thornton (Tomicia) and Patrick Tyler; grandchildren, Trey, Trevor, Jr., Sidney, Mackenzi, Tarajii, Kevis, and Kenijah, Trevon, Xachari, Xaquavius and Xavian; brothers, Arthur Lee Bailey, Jr., (Velma), Robert Bailey, Sr. (Sandra), Willie Bailey, Sr., (Sandy) and David Bailey; sisters, Evelyn Simmons (James), Dorothy Simmons (Hubert, Sr.,) and Patricia Straughter (Mitchell) and a host of other relatives; special friends, Brenda Williams, Shirley McCullough, Peggy Eady and Glemma McCray, Liz Williams, James Smith, Johnnie Jackson (c/o 65' president) and Shelah Watkins; godchildren, Valencia, Krystal ,Brittany Mobley and Tina McCrae. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home, Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
