Obituary

Homegoing Services for Mr. Anthony N. Blackmon, Sr. of Tampa, Florida who passed away Friday, August 28, 2009, will be held Saturday, September 5th, 11:00 a.m. at Beulah Baptist Institutional Church,1006 W. Cypress Street, Pastor W. James Favorite, with Elder Joseph Sykes of St. John's Primitive Baptist Church of Clearwater, officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Anthony Nathaniel Blackmon was born August 9, 1956, in Miami, FL. Anthony was the son of Constance and Edward Blackmon. At an early age, Anthony lived in Detroit and New York, before returning to Miami and graduating from Jackson High School in 1974. He attended Federal City College in Washington, D.C. before completing his studies at the University of Miami. Anthony was an outstanding athlete who played football on some of the best high school football teams in the state. Anthony moved to Tampa in the early nineteen eighties, and quickly had an impact on the community. He coached little league football for over twenty-five years, and provided opportunities for youths to play football that could not afford to participate on teams throughout Hillsborough County. Anthony worked for the Tampa Housing Authority, and helped several families in transition. He was known as a tough, yet fair administrator, who had a heart of gold. Over the years, Anthony mentored five boys and raised them all as his own into manhood. He was preceded in death by son, Rashad Blackmon. He leaves to cherish his memories: mother Constance Blackmon; father Edward Blackmon, daughter, LyTia Blackmon; sons, Anthony Blackmon, Jr. and; godsons, Willie Queen, Willie Terrell, Terrik Miller, Ralph Grover and Earl Reeves who are a living testament to Anthony's kindness and generosity; goddaughters Anika Blocker and La'Shara Sullivan; aunts, Rosa Jones, Marjorie Smith, Lize Smith, and Karen Smith; uncle, Randall Smith; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; devoted friends Sandra Sullivan, Kevin Davis , Carroll Weiner, Don Lee, Dan Ortega, and Sheila Darling. The remains will repose at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, September 4th from 5 to 8 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
