Obituary

Homegoing services for Mr. Author Roberts of 5613 Cookman Dr. who passed away Saturday, January 2, 2010, will be held Saturday, January 9th, 2:00 P.M. Mt. Sinai A.M.E. Zion Church, 2909 N. Nebraska Ave., Rev. Lillian Zakay, pastor officiating. Interment will follow. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church for the service at 1:45 P.M. Author was born January 12, 1952 in Ft. Myers, Florida. He attended Howard W Blake Sr. High School in 1970 and left to join the Breckenridge Job Corp, where he received his certification in auto mechanics. He was employed with Diamond Crystal Salt Company for over 25 years. He also was employed with Fed X and was recognized as one of the prestigious members of the "Dream Team", where he received a pin and plaque for his outstanding service. Author was a former member of Mt. Sinai AME Zion church, where he served on the usher board and The Sons of Varick. He transitioned from Mt.Sinai in 2003 following God's instructions to support his son, Marcus Roberts in his ministry. Author served as an Armor Bearer and as Head Usher for the ministry. He was very active in the Palm River Community at Southeast Little League for over 18 years. Because of his outstanding participation during that period of time, he received several accolades. One of which was Jr. League baseball all-star coach and Big league district Championship coach. Also Author was an active coach for the Tampa Spartans Boys and Girls club of West Tampa. He was most affectionately known as "Cooter" in the community because of his mechanical abilities. Because of Authors heart, he made himself available to be a blessing by providing quality work to those in their time of need. Author's parents, Johnnie Mae Williams and his step father, Willie Williams preceded him in death. He met the love of his Life Belinda J Carson whom he met when she was 15 and per his words, "The first time I saw her I was fascinated and knew I would marry her." Of that marriage were born two children, Marcus and Clifford Roberts. Author leaves to cherish in memory: his devoted and loving wife of 37 years, Belinda; Two sons, Marcus Roberts and wife, Stephanie and Clifford Roberts and wife, Ashley; Four grandchildren, Nathaniel, Aunrii, Aubree and Khaleb Roberts; in addition four aunts, Aliyce Williams (Jacksonville, FL), Alfrieda Lias and husband, Jesse and Mamie Williams (Lehigh Acres, FL) and Rosalyn (Ft Myers, FL); two uncles, Arto Frances (Ft Myers, FL) and Richard Carson (Tampa, FL); Three great aunts, Gracie Harris (Brooksville, FL), Annie Erby (Tampa, FL), Vonceal Dell and husband, L.B. (Rochester, NY); one great uncle, Willie James and wife, Mary (Sarasota, FL); and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews; Four sisters-in-law, Mary Johnson and husband, Marion, Patricia Bates and husband, Edward and Gwenda Carson, all of Tampa, FL, and Stephanie Hickman of Radcliff, KY; and a host of friends.
