The homegoing celebration for Mrs. Barbara Jean Birt of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Sunday, July 30th, 2017 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, will be held Saturday, August 12, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Anointed Word Church, 1709 W St Joseph St, Reverend Roy Hayes, officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Barbara Jean Birt was born November 12, 1933 in St Petersburg, Florida to the late Elliott Birt Sr. and the late Daisy Thomas. She later became a resident of Tampa, Florida. She attended local public schools and graduated from Middleton Senior High School in 1952. Prior to retiring, she was employed at the University of South Florida for over 30 years. Her life was dedicated to servicewhich she unselfishly gave to her church, family and friends. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Robert Cooke whom she married in 1954. She leaves to cherish her memoriesher loving son/nephew, Otis Birt Jr. and wife Eva of Grove City, Ohio; her brothers: Otis Birt Sr. of Tampa, Florida and Elliott Birt Jr. and wife Velma of Hartford, Connecticut; her aunts: Margaret Cannedy of Tampa, Florida and Ruth Collins Martin of Washington, D.C.; her nephews: Elliott Birt III of Tampa, Florida, and Kendall Crowe of Hartford, Connecticut; her nieces: Valadia Birt Batchelor of Tampa, Florida, Renee A. Birt of Hartford, Connecticut, Vickie Shepard and husband, Montique of Rosamond, California, and Carolyn Ford and husband, Terrance of Tampa, Florida. She is also survived by loyal lifetime friend and loving spiritual sister, Jacquelyn Gatling of Tampa, Florida; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, August 11th, 2017 from 6pm-8pm. The family will be receiving visitors from 6pm-7pm only. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
