A Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Barbara J. Cherry 'Cookie' of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 will be held Saturday, March 20th, 11:00 a.m., First M.B. Church of Highland Pines, 4711 E. 21st Street., Pastor Cleveland Lane, officiant. The interment will be held in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Barbara J. Cherry 'Cookie' was born on May 17, 1948 in Trenton, New Jersey. She graduated from Blake High School. She was a member of Northside M.B. Church and order of the Eastern Stars. Barbara enjoyed traveling, cooking, holiday dinners and spending time with her family. Barbara was loving mom, mother in law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister in law, aunt, friend and a great woman of God. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Wallace and Emma Mims; father, Wallace Mims, Sr.; son, Willie Cherry, Jr.; grandson, Willie Cherry III and stepmother, Barbara L. Mims. She leaves to cherish her precious memories with her daughter, Etrinda L. Parker (Eric); grandchildren, Ronald A. Washington, Jr., Eric A. Washington, Sr. (Lyonda), Latoya L. Lasing (Adrian), Ashley Cherry, Adrian Cherry, Corey Frierson and Jackson Cousins; great-grandchildren, Amyla Cherry, Amariana Cherry, EmoniWashington, TaleyaBrown, Aaliyah Lasing, Quevon Richardson, JaQuan Richardson, Ja'Veiona Young, Eric Washington, Jr., Ari Love Lasing, Willie Cherry IV, ZoriyahLasing and Audrey Lasing; brothers, James Reddy Summers (Deidre) and Wallace Calvin Mims, Jr. (Stephanie); sisters, Mildred Ellison, Lillian Murray (Sam) and Belinda Mims-Reid (Glenn); a host of nieces and nephews; daughter in Christ, Rachelle S. Brown (William) and life ling friend/sister, Caddie Timmons.
The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, March 19th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service. We are following the CDC guidelines.
