Obituary

Homegoing services for Mrs. Barbara Ann Odom-Hummings of Tampa who passed away Friday, April 17, 2015, her spirit ascended to the arms of the Lord while surrounded by her loved ones will be held Saturday, May 2nd, 11:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church of College Hill, 3838 N. 29th Street, Rev. Dr. Evan S. Burrows, pastor officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Odom-Hummings was born in Tampa, Florida on September 19, 1948 to the late Clarence and Effie Mae Odom. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lawrence Odom and Carolyn Odom-Chester. Mrs. Odom-Hummings attended St. Peter Claver Catholic School during her childhood advancing to Middleton Sr. High School, where she graduated from in 1967. She became a medical assistant after attending Chicago Medical College and returned to Tampa where she was employed at St. Joseph's Hospital. Later she pursued her education as a caregiver. She enjoyed cooking, baking, taking care of others and going to First Baptist Church of College Hill, where she was a loyal member. She had a bon-a-fide spirit and helped everyone she knew that needed compassionate care and continued to do so until she got sick. Barbara leaves to cherish her memories with her twin sister, Bettie Ann Odom-Alexander of Tampa; brother, Clarence Odom (Martha) of Jacksonville, NC; nephews, Terrance and Brandi Odom of Atlanta, GA; Clarence and Annette Chole of Miami, FL, Martin Jerome Odom of California, Michael and Sylvia Odom of Tampa, FL; great- nephews and nieces, Michael Odom, Jr., Clarence Odom III, Karmeyatta Alexander and Kyle Alexander, Bobbi and KaMya Odom, E.J. Chester, Jr. of Florida., Jamessa Chester of New York., Karmeyatta and Annette Sparkly of Jacksonville, NC., Michael Parker (Gladys), Opal and Luther Hadley of Georgia., Cynthia Parker of Florida; favorite uncle and aunt, Roberto and Clara Shockness, Jamaica, NY; Barbara enjoyed very much her cousins of Rochester, New York, Cardell Nix, Jr. (Evelyn), Cecelia, Vickie and Ophelia Nix and Wallace McDonald, Cassie Edwards, Mary Knox, Charles and Johnny Rubin, Lewis Pryor and wife, all of Florida; she spent time with her best friends when she was not busy, Alma Purify, Lillian Brunson, Marion Gaines, Sylvia Allen, Rosa Lee Austin, Belinda Brown, Mary Austin and Agnes McDonald; favorite friends, Joe and Gwen Gibson, Ernest Chester and Joyce Williams, all of Florida. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, May 1st, from 5-8 p.m., The family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
