Obituary

The Memorial Service for Mr. Basil Powell of Tampa, FL who passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016 will be held Saturday, February 27th, 11:00 a.m. at Northside Missionary Baptist Church, 5706 N. 40th Street, Rev. Ricardo Robinson pastor, officiating. The interment will follow. Basil was a member of Northside Missionary Baptist Church. Basil had over 25 years of experience on the international stage as well as in the studio; Basil Powells skills on the electric guitar and bass were without limitations. He drew from legends such as BB King and Jeff Beck to Eric Clapton and Wes Montgomery. Basil created a style and a voice that was all of his own. He has performed with Johnnie Taylor, the O'Jays, Mercer Ellington, The Gap Band and The Platters. He leaves to cherish his memories with his wife of 17 years Geraldine Holloway-Powell; son, Steven Anthony Powell; stepdaughter, Amoya Oyegwhle; grandchildren, Jason Powell, Essence Powell, Antonio Ruiz, Rico Ruiz, LaDale Wilford, Jamarai Moore, Katurah Miles and Kai Wilford; great grandson, Zion; parents, Basil Powell, Sr. and Azzie Powell; brother, Keith Powell; sisters, Lisa Cherry, Sharlene Powell and Darlene Campbell; mother-in-law, Mattie Hills; 2 sisters-in-law, Christine Jackson and Ernestine Mention; brother-in-law, Chief Anthony Holloway; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; friends, John (Dash) Proon, Ron Carmichael, Noritna Jeffrey, Shawn Bron and Lester Freeman. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
