A homegoing celebration for Mr. Bernard Benton, Sr. of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 will be held on Saturday, November 19th, 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Chapel AME Church, 2615 Chipco Street, Pastor James Crews, officiating. The interment will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida Bernard was born on June 26, 1947 to Lewis Gordon and the late Thelma Lindsay. He was a member of Pleasant Chapel AME Church. Bernard and enjoyed cooking, playing chess and had a love for dogs. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He leaves to cherish his fond and loving memories with his wife, Bridget Gainey; sons, Reginald B. Battle and Bernard Jason Benton, Jr.; brother, Louis Benton; sister, Laverne Logan; in-laws, Ruby McDowell (James), William Gainey (Thelma), Virgie Anglin (Billy), Carolyn Miller, Katie Booher, Laura Thomas (Charles) and Dennis Gainey (Rose); a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; including friends, Roy Monlin, Bennie Taylor, Willie White, Cynthia Lynn and Alonzo Thomas. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, November 18th from 5 to 8 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
