A homegoing celebration for Mr. Bernard Hernandez Thomas, Sr. of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel 2708 E. Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd., Rev. Eddie Nunn, officiating. The interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Bernard Hernandez-Thomas, Sr. was born on November 23, 1946 in Donalsonville to the late Mannie Thomas and Tommie Lue Wimberly. Mr. Thomas attended the public schools of Duval and Hillsborough counties and was a graduate of Middleton Senior High School, class of 1964. He was a member of the football team and was an outstanding athlete. After graduation he attended Hillsborough Community College, where he majored in accounting. In later years, he was employed by General Cable for a number of years and retired from Penn Central State Railroad after 30 years of service. He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories with his wife, Laura Thomas; 2 children, Tonya Moultrie (Ben, Sr.) and Bernard H. Thomas, Jr. (Tameia); grandchildren, Megan, Ben, Jr. and Lauren Moultrie, Kebreia, Jyliah, Tenejah andAniyah; aunts, Lomia, Lee (Charles), Annie Pearl Wimberly, Lenora Wimberly and Elizabeth Wynn; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Futch; nieces, Yasmeen Leon (Learnen), Kathy Anderson and Crystal Jolly; and a host of sorrowing friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, September 30th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday for the service.
