Obituary

A homegoing celebration for Mrs. Bessie L. Porter of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Monday, February 6, 2017 will be held on Saturday, February 18th, 2:00 p.m. at 29th Street Church of Christ, 3310 N. 29th Street, Pastor Perry Johnson with Minister Eddie Harper, eulogist. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Bessie Porter was born March 15, 1924 to the late Johnny Johnson and Eloise Alexander. She married the late David Porter, Sr. on December 25, 1940 from this union there were 13 children and together they raised 15 children. She worked at Del Monte Company as a food processor. She also worked as a dietician at the Home Association and Hawthorne nursing homes. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Porter, Sr.; son, Robert Porter; sisters, Margaret Monk and Rosetta Holder; brothers, Johnny Johnson, Ben Johnson, Eddie B. Homer and daughter-in-law, Corrine Porter. Bessie Porter leaves to cherish her memories with 8 daughters, Mattie James, Nettie Dennis (George), Betty Warren (Freddie), Minnie Davis (Willie), Bessie Corradine, Nadine Porter- Williams, Addie Porter Johnson and Delores Johnson (Leonard); 4 sons, David Porter, Jr., Charles Porter (Frankie), Dr. Marvin Porter (May Jean) and Russell Porter (Tarkesha); grandchildren, Sora Porter, Jimmy Porter, Bridgette Shuler, Jeanette James, Vivian Shuler, Phyllis Shuler, George Shuler, George Dennis, Jr., Kathy Dennis, William Dennis, Theophilus Porter, Charmange Porter, Angela Carter (Norman), Priscilla Watson (Tony), Lonnie Barnum, Jr., (Tasha), Ronnie C. Barnum, Lesley Moore, David Davis, DePrannie Asberry, Jayfrey Williams, Lathario Johnson (Melissa), Kimeka Johnson, Aisha Sharrieff, Elijah Johnson, Russell Porter, Jr. , Tony Benett, Jeremy Porter, Rushawn Porter, Bronkelly Porter (Yolanda), Samuel Porter, Vonceilia Black, Kiona Black and Virtuous Williams; 75 great grandchildren, 36 great great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, February 17th from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
