With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Betty Jo Thomas on February 16, 2025, at the age of 91. Betty Jo was born on July 4, 1933, in Port Tampa, Florida. She graduated from Middleton High School and spent her life well-known for her bold personality and loving spirit. Throughout her life, Betty cherished spending time with family, friends, and her church community. She dedicated over 30 years of her career to Charters Hospital before retiring, then continued to serve by volunteering as a Foster grandparent in Hillsborough Public Schools. Betty was loved by everyone she encountered, leaving a lasting impact on many.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie C. Thomas; parents, Isaac and Queen Woods; her children, Clifford and Tammy Thomas; her brother, Don Woods; her sister, Verda Hamilton; her grandson, Herman Telfair; and her great-granddaughter, Shamhya Turner.
Betty leaves behind cherished memories to her surviving children: Vanda Thomas (Kenny), Linda Thomas (Clarence), Pastor Ronald Thomas (First Lady Cynthia) of Victorville, California, Jeffery, and Shawn Thomas. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Temeka Thomas (Reginald), Semeka Turner, Ronaldo Thomas (Jenea), Clifford Thomas, Loretta Bush (Sean), Makesha Thomas, Kenya Stanley, Lekisiear, Sikkina, Keon, Ken Josh and Shawn Thomas, Shanteia Mills, Ulysses Brooks (Sherita), Deion Thomas, Gabriel Thomas, Akikya Henderson, Tekia Reed, Kelly, Thomas, Allen Thomas of Eufaulo, Alabama; sister, Rose Turner of Boston, Massachusetts; aunt, Catherine Moy of Jacksonville, Florida; devoted goddaughter, Melanie Allen; devoted friend, Jon Johnson; and a host of sorrowing other relatives and friends. Betty Jo Thomas will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
