Obituary

A Graveside service for Mrs. Betty Davis White of Tampa, Florida who passed away on December 2, 2020, will be held on Saturday, December 12th, 1:00 p.m. at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Ave., Pastor Bessie Mohead of Hood Temple AME Church, officiating. The interment will follow.

Betty Davis White was born December 19, 1942 in Tampa, Florida. She was the eldest child of the late Lizzie Williams Davis and Robert Davis. Her position in the family gave her leadership abilities that she would carry on throughout her life. She attended the public schools of Hillsborough County and graduated from Middleton Senior High School, Class of 1960. She matriculated to Gibbs Jr. College, North Carolina Central University and the University of South Florida earning her associates, bachelors, and masters degree. As a lifetime educator, Betty was instrumental in molding the lives of the students at both Robinson High School and Plant City High School where she later retired after 28 years of dedicated service. Her passion for community, manifested itself in her entrepreneurial endeavors. She owned and operated Betty's Corner Store for many years. While doing so she was instrumental in instilling a positive work ethic within her family. Although the field of education, real estate and entrepreneurship brought her much joy, she took more joy in spending time caring for her family and friends. She continuously dedicated her time and efforts to seek the comfort of others. This was most evident in her contributions to the Class of 1960. Whether it was holding the office of President, Treasurer, or Event Planner, she was always willing to step up. Betty was lucky in love twice in her lifetime, as she was married to Ernest Dukes and the late Donald White. Betty had a heart for people, and it showed in everything that she did. She found her purpose through education, entrepreneurship, and the relationship building model that she maintained her entire life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Linda Davis Griffin Killins. She leaves warm and loving memories to be cherished by: a caring sister, Patricia Thomas and husband, Leo; a devoted and loving nephew, Eric Killins Sr. and wife, Kenyatta; (Eric Jr., Natori and Kenzel); step daughter, Shawne Dukes (Deyrelle, Charles, Sierra and John); loving god children, Paula Gaskins, Jacqueline Cochran, Angela Beaty, Karen Blocker and Don Blocker; nieces, Michelle Willams and Vernadette Williams; nephews, Larry Williams, Willie Williams and Michael Williams.
