Obituary

Homegoing services for Ms. Bettye Jean Bailey of Tampa, who passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013, will be held Saturday, June 1st, 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of College Hill, 3838 N. 29th Street, Rev. Dr. Evan Burrows, pastor with Rev. Kenneth Scarborough, eulogist. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Bettye was born October 14, 1945 in Tampa, Florida to the late Gladys R. Bailey McBride. Bettye attended and graduated from Middleton Senior High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church of College Hill, where she served on the Usher Board. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars. Bettye was like a second mother too many, enjoyed taking care of children and faithfully reading her bible. She was preceded in death by her son, Harvey J. Bailey; mother Gladys R. Bailey McBride; brothers, Michael A. McBride and Nathaniel Bailey; sister, Bertha Randolph; aunt, Lily Mae Stevenson; cousins, Johnnie L., Barbara, Sandra and Walter Stevenson, Michael Washington, Charles Bivens and Ronald Thompson. She leaves to cherish her memories: daughter, Joanne Bailey; sons, Walter C. Bailey and Chavez L. Pownell; grandchildren, Botavia, Chavez J., DyQueshia and Avant Pownell; brothers, Joseph McBride, Rudolph McBride (Nettie), Edgar Randolph (Beverly), Walter L. Randolph, Sr. and Anthony D. McBride; sister, Deborah V. (Goldie) Mingo; nephews, Walter L. Randolph, Jr., Damien Randolph, Trenten Bailey, Walter Pickens, Rodney Reed, Demarcus and Brandon Pickens, Jerell Cargill, Khyree Baines, DeShaun G. Wade, Oscar Figueroa and Giovanni McBride; nieces, Tamika M. McBride, Kinyada (Albert) Morgan, Tasha Mingo, Lily M. McBride, DeVonnia C. Mingo, Ashanti I. McBride, Ashley McBride, Kiani Mullins, Quess Pickens, Nadia Morgan, Destiny Pickens, Roberta Morgan, Eyanna McBride, Walkeria and Jayla Pickens; cousins, Annie Bell and Herbert Stevenson, Peter Britt, Jerome Alexander, Carolyn Smith, Patricia Alexander, Cynthia Washington, Jeri Reynolds, Carolyn Stevenson, and Nitika (Timothy) Kilpatrick; godchildren, Sheontra "CeCe" Lott, Jasmar Lott, Sharon "Cha" Scott, Kierra and DeMari; goddaughter, Annie Whitehead (Charlie); best friends, Lois Rudolph, Debbie Jonesia, Vivian Haley, Valerie Haley, Georgie Mae Moye, Rebecca Pickens Simmons, Gloria Randolph, Delois Smith, Joanne Myrick, Dorothy Ashe, Ms. Cat, Ms. Mary, Carcener Britt, Ms. Inez, Ms. Beatrice Clinton, Atwana Brazil and Felecia Bea; a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors, too numerous to mention but not forgotten. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church for the service on Saturday.
