Bettye Jean
Brown
May 25, 1934 – January 20, 2021
A Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Bettye Jean Brown passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 will be held on Saturday, January 30th, 11:00 a.m., Mt. Moriah P. B. Church, 1225N. Nebraska Ave. The interment will be held in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Bettye Jean Brown was called to heaven joining her parents, John and Alberta Batchelor. Preceding her in death were siblings, Ethel Brewer, James Batchelor, Louise Riggins, Leandra Batchelor and Billy Batchelor. What a celebration! Mrs. Brown was born May 25, 1934, a native Floridian from Plant City, Florida. She had a brief stay in Atlanta, Georgia where she believed she would live there, but missed her family and decided to return home to Florida. While pursuing an education in Hillsborough County Public Schools, she continued her studies with the Business of Cosmetology. She completed the Sunlight Beauty School under the direction of Mrs. Roberson here in Tampa in the mid 1950's. After graduation, she completed Beautician license requirements for the state of Florida. Mrs. Brown continued to work and complete other classes for certification as a Master beautician. She remained a member of the Orange Blossom Cosmetology Unit, later establishing her business at her home address. She loved her work. As a passionate caretaker, she wanted to make sure others had their basic necessities and sometimes caring for people in her home. Mrs. Brown had a great love for her church, Mt. Moriah P.B. Church, where she served on several committees: her highest honor of serving on the Mother's Board, singing in the #3 Chorus for over 40 years and maintaining the 'Wall of Memories.' She was an ardent member and raised her children to remain dedicated while serving in the church. Her husband, Mr. Clifford 'Quack' Brown, of the National Negro Baseball League swept her off her feet and they have been married nearly 70 years. 'His love for his wife is infinite,' he said. She leaves to cherish her memories, loving husband Clifford Brown Sr.; daughters, Linda Batchelor Aldrich, (Samuel), Gail Green, Veronica Borders, (Charles) and Clifford Brown, Jr. (Dionne); grandchildren, Darron Aldrich Sr. (Tamela), Sukandra Cooper (David), Samuel J.
