Celebration of life services for Betty Jo Sheppard- Coleman affectionately known as "Granny" who was a native of Tampa, Florida, who passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2013, will be held on Saturday, December 7th, 11:00 a.m. Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 8119 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, with Pastor Eugene Garnett, officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Bettye was born February 24, 1935 to the late Rev. Charlie and Creola Sheppard. She was reared in the Sulphur Springs area and attended Hillsborough County schools. At an early age she joined the Springhill M.B. Church and was currently a member of First M.B. Church of Highland Pines under the leadership of Rev. Cleveland Lane. She was employed by the University of South until her retirement. Granny enjoyed serving the Sulphur Springs community as their Frozen Cup lady. Betty took pride in cooking Sunday dinners for her nephew and niece Willie Frank Sr. and Deloris Sheppard as well as other people in the community. Ms Coleman knew no stranger. She is the mother of 8 children 3 of which preceded her in death Lisa, Beverly and Bernard Coleman along with 13 brothers and sisters. Granny leaves to celebrate her life and share precious memories: 1 loving and devoted daughter Regina Coleman of Tampa, Fl; 4 sons Garland Coleman, Jr. (Eunice), Ronald Coleman (Brenda), Michael Coleman, Marc Coleman all of Tampa, Fl; 1 sister Gloria Davis (Roman)of Roxbury, MA ; 20 grandchildren; Omar, Stephanie, Lisa, Kim, Michael (Hawkie), Tyesheia, Erica, Roderick, Markisha, Sherika, Shonique, Darryl, Eugene, Joeneisha, Tidra, QuanTiara, Yvon (Bomber), Marc Jr., Marshayla and Mariana; 22 great grandchildren, a host of nieces ,nephews cousins and other sorrowing relatives and special friends such as William K. Stewart (Papa),Gail Reese, Myrtle Lee, Ms. Margaret, 1 God daughter, her Yukon Crew, all of her Frozen Cup Kids and anyone who knew her as "Granny". The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, December 6th, from 5-8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
