BJ Peterson was born on July 6, 1948, in Gunnison, Mississippi. Parents Edward and Bertha Mae Scott.
BJ received his elementary and secondary education in Chicago at Carrie Jacobs Bond Elementary School, Lewis-Chaplain, and Calumet High School.
BJ accepted Christ and was baptized at New Era M.B. Church by Reverend Ernest Wright.
BJ was inducted into the United State Army on September 18, 1968, and served until September 17, 1970. While he served he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Marksman Badge (M-14), Sharpshooter Badge (M-16), Expert Badge (M-60), and the Purple Heart
BJ attended DeVry Institute to study Architectural Design.
BJ went on to secure employment at Naylor Pipe Company, Grier Abrasive Company, and Kimbark Liquors in Chicago.
BJ married Sandra Caldwell on June 3, 1978, and had two children Shlise and Brian. They later moved to Tampa, Florida where BJ secured employment at St. Joseph Hospital before his retirement.
BJ was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Bertha Mae Scott, his brother John Peterson, his favorite uncle Thad Scott and his favorite Aunt Annie B. Harper.
BJ made his transition on June 30, 2023, at 10:20 pm at Advent Hospital in Tampa, Florida
BJ leaves to celebrate his life and cherish fond memories of his wife Sandra of 45 years. His two children, Shlise (Eugene) and Brian. Sibling sisters: Gloria Jean Peterson, Charlene Bosworth, Barbara Johnson, Gertrude Peterson, and Brother Edward "Pap" Scott Jr. Brother-in-law Clemell Caldwell. Five grandchildren Tyreonna, Jahonna, Elionna, Breonna, and one grandson Elias. His best friend Willis Bradshaw, and fur babies Max and Janice. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
