Bonita J.
Williams Darby
February 5, 1947 – April 17, 2025
Bonita Joyce Kelly, affectionately known to those who knew her from childhood, as well as those who attended or went to school with her. She was loved and admired by all, she was a loving mother, and a devoted friend. She was born to James Kelly and Lue Ellen Mosley on February 5, 1947. Although she was an only child, she and her first cousins, Kenneth and Rodney Williams, along with Marion Massey were like siblings. Along her journey through life, she amassed a plethora of friends and loved ones who viewed her as a confidant. Sandra Lovelace was like a sister to Mrs. Darby, they were life-long friends and spoke daily. Anytime someone needed a friend or loved one to speak to she was there. She was a sweet and kind-spirited person.
Music had a special place in her heart, especially jazz. She would spend hours listening to music and reflecting on life. She would often look up to the sky to sing while snapping her fingers; it was as if she was in tune with nature, when most likely it was in tune with The Holy Spirit. The calm that would envelop her during times of despair would be crippling to most. However, she would simply say," It's out of my hands; I'm giving it to The Lord." When asked, "Why doesn't she like scary movies"? She would simply reply " Life is scary enough by itself!" She was wise in that way, scripturally it says: "Many are called, but few are chosen" (Matthew 22:14). She was one of those few, no matter what life threw at her, she stood strong and held her head high.
She was preceded in death by aunts and uncles, Pearl Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor, Lucinda Williams, Mildred Perry, Inell Jones, Jorice Williams, Jr., and Lonnie Williams.
She leaves to cherish her memories sons, Daryel Kelly, Sr. (Sharon) and Charles Darby, Sr. (Jacqueline Alexis). Mrs Darby also considered as sons; Darin A. Hunter (Lawanda Hunter, and Moses Wells (Felicia Wells); grandsons, Daryel Kelly, Jr. and Charles Chancellor Darby II; granddaughter, Vivian Darby Brown; great-grandchildren, Daryel Kelly, III and Damar Kelly, and Sanjay Jorcarison Harrison, Jr.; brothers and sister, Kenneth and Rodney Williams, and Marian Massey; last surviving aunt, Eleanor McQuire; cousins, Caroline, Arthur, Charles, Lawrence, Cornelius, Deloris, Kathy, Mike, Barra Jean, Jarvis, Renee, Jimmy Lee, Debra, L.P., Lisa, Angie, Rodney Jarice, Dwayne, Tameka, Tonya, Jennie, Doris Mae, Larry Gail, Anetta, Jorice, Jr., and a host of other nephews, nieces and loved ones. Those who knew her will forever remember her stride, her pride and most of all, her heart. Woman of GOD, we say, "Safe travels, the Father has called you Home." Surely, He'll be saying to you, "Well done my child, true and faithful servant".
