A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Brenda Sue Burney of Tampa, Florida who passed away on August 28, 2021, will be held on Saturday, September 11th, 3:30 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home 2708 E. Martin Luther King Blvd. Tampa, Florida. Reverend Larry L. Roundtree II, of New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, officiating.

Brenda was born March 20, 1956, to Mae P. McHellon and Willie J. Merritt. Brenda loved attending church services when her health allowed and spending time with family and friends near and far. Brenda also enjoyed movies, board and card games.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin K. Burney, parents, sister, Linda Merritt; and brother, Jerome Merritt, Sr. She leaves to cherish her memory; daughters, Katrina Guzman, Debra Burney, Denise Burney; grandson, Maccio Guzman; sister Annie (Timmie) Williams; sister-n-law, Beverly Merritt; brothers, Billie (Laura) Merritt, James (Silvia) Merritt, Jerry (Brenda) Merritt Sr.; aunts, Annie Vickers, Essie Merritt, Mary Vickers, Ella Allen, and Lillie Grimsley; uncles, Robert (Liz) McHellon, John (JoAnn) McHellon, and Theodore (Frances) Merritt; nieces, Chacitha Bryant, Latasha Bryant, Antwonette Critton, Crystal Brown, and Latasha Henry; nephews, Jerry Merritt Jr. (Alexis), Jerome Merritt Jr. (Nicole), Jemeal Merritt Sr., Dwayne Bryant Jr., Frederick Henry (Takkia), Jeremiah Brown, and Isaiah Phillips; great nieces; Tatyana Bryant, Destiny Bryant, Jemireka Merritt, Jemareya Merritt, Jordin Johnson, and Jestina Brown; great nephews; Jemeal Merritt Jr., Talon Rivers, Ali Bryant, ArJay Merritt, and Elijah Henry; special friends, The New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church Family, Whispering Oaks Nursing Home (Residents and Staff), Mr. Diego Cruz R.N., and a host of cousins that she loved dearly.

The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, September 10th from 2:30 3:30 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel for the service. We are following the CDC guidelines.
