Obituary

A Homegoing Celebration for Rev. Caleb Richard Batchelor, 'Sone' of Tampa, Florida who passed away, Thursday, May 21, 2020, will be held Saturday, May 30th, 2:00 p.m., at New Progress M.B. Church, 3307 E. Shadowlawn Ave., Rev. Maurice Taylor, pastor officiating. The interment will be in Orange Hill Cemetery. Caleb was born to George Batchelor and Florence Brown on December 28, 1936 in Claremont, St. Ann, Jamaica. He was educated in the public schools of Jamaica and continued his education in Tampa, Florida when he came to the United States on May 5, 1973. Rev. Batchelor worked as a truck driver at Cohen Brothers Construction Company and later worked at Cox Enterprises. In 1978, Caleb transitioned into ministry under the guidance and direction of the late Rev. E.J. Williams, Jr. Rev. Batchelor was very active in the Tampa Bay Community committing his time and talents to: Pastors on Patrol, Baptist Ministers Conference, collaborated with the State's Attorney Office, 13th Judicial Circuit, Chaplain at St. Joseph's and Tampa General Hospitals and a 32nd Degree Mason with St. John Lodge #30 of International Free & Accepted Modern Masons for over 20 years. Additionally, Rev. Batchelor was a life-long member and served in many roles at New Progress M.B. Church as a trustee, deacon and assistant pastor. He had a winning personality and a bright smile, he brought many souls to Christ. He fought the 'Good Fight' and God saw fit to call his faithful servant home to eternal rest. Rev. Batchelor was preceded in death by his parents and brother, O. (Junior) Robinson. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 34 years, Wilhelmenia Batchelor; children, son, Mark Batchelor (Anniece) of Kingston, Jamaica; 2 daughters, Charmain Batchelor of Portmore, Jamaica and Tanya Batchelor Judge (Adrian) of Tampa, Florida; step-daughter, Regina Johnson; grandson, Daniel Sierra, Jr.; granddaughters, Carla Francis, Samantha, Stacey and Natalia Batchelor and step-grandson, Joshua Graham; brother, Archie Batchelor of Canada; sisters, Mavis White, Ruth Dwyer and Shirly Riley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and extended family, friends and mentees who he impacted during his lifetime. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, May 29th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The family will receive friends during the visitation from 3:00-4:00 p.m. The family and friends will meet at the church on Saturday for the service. The CDC guidelines will be followed.
