Funeral service for Ms. Carel Lee Grant will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 in the chapel of Aikens funeral home, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Tampa, FL. 33610.
Ms. Grant was born in Crestview, FL on April 24, 1949. She waspreceded in death by her loving parents, the late Rev. Clarence Grant Sr. & Sadie LeeHolmes-Grant;three sisters, Rosita, Linda Faye and Sundra Jean Grant-Godfrey; two brothers,Clarence Grant, Sr. andKenneth T. Grant, Sr. one nephew, James Jones, Sr. a niece, Sadie Jo Grant, and other aunts, uncles, family members.
Carel Lee accepted Christ at an early age and was blessed with many gifts and talents. The most memorable for friends and family would be the way she could set the room onfire with her singing and dancing. Carel Lee was a nurturer by nature as she helped her mother with her younger siblings, so it was no surprise for her interest to be in Nursing. She attended and graduated from Middleton Senior High School in 1967, where sheexcelled in the classroom as well as on the field. She was heavily involved in schoolactivities, to include Concert Chorus, Upward Bound, and her all-time favorite, a head majorette and member of the Middleton Senior High School's 'MARCHINGEST BANDIN THE LAND!' Now, you all didn't think that FAMU originated that did you?! She 'LOVED'her class and made sure that everyone knew it! If you know Carel Lee, then you also knowthat 'Halftime was Showtime!!' She was high-stepping, dancing, and twirling like only shecould do.
After high school, Carel Lee attended Bethune Cookman College for some time until she decided to go to Job Corp in West Virginia. In 1970, she gave birth to her onlydaughter, Carmen Craven, fervently known as 'Tootsie', who followed in her footstepssinging and dancing as well, followed by her eldest son Edward A. Lue, nick named 'Eddie', who undoubtably captured her heart, especially when he laughed; and her baby boy,Michael Eugene Grant, who shares the same first and middle name of Monkey's son(Michael Eugene Dexter), due to the incredibly inseparable friendship she had with Mrs.Francis Dexter bka 'Monkey'. Mom loved and cherished all of her friends; they all werethick as thieves. The same year that Michael was born, Carel Lee would be at the hospital towelcome her oldest grandson, Anthony Turner, 'AJ', whom she shared a very specialrelationship with. They talked about everything under the sun and then movies, sports, more movies, and more Sports.
Many years later, Carel Lee and Michael would move toVirginia to be closer to Tootsie and AJ, she would stay in Virginia until she was called hometo be with the Lord. Carel Lee was all about family and loved her family unconditionally. There were two things that you were not going to do. One, you weren't going to mess withher 'FAMILY' and two, you weren't going to tell her 'NO!' You were already defeated nomatter what came after the word no. LOL. Carel Lee believed that all things were possiblewith God on your side. She taught her family to love, be fearless, confident, fight for what'sright and allow God to do the rest. God never fails.
