A life remembered private service for retired Master Sergeant Carl Richard McKinney of Tampa who passed away Friday, April 18, 2014, was held on Monday, April 21, 2014. Carl was born in Tampa, Florida on April 5, 1935 to the late William Augusta and the late Jessie Lee McKinney. He graduated from George H. Middleton High School. Carl was a resident of Progress Village, was a loving son, brother, father, uncle, friend and caregiver. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force. After retirement, he continued to serve at the VA Hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan, where he also later retired. Among the things that he enjoyed most were family, solving puzzles, sports and watching television. He often traveled between Michigan and Florida to be with family. In later years, he stopped traveling north to serve as one of the primary caregivers for his mother. Regardless of his place of residence, he dutifully provided for all of his children in Texas and Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Horace and Otha McKinney and sister, Rose Mary Amiel. His precious and loving memories will remain with his family who include: children, Michael Carter, Susan McKinney, Randy Williams and Krystal Caldwell-McKinney; sister, Jacqueline M. Preston; brother and caregiver, Ronald McKinney; grandchildren, Quinton, Whittney, Whitney, Jalen, Kierra, Ranika, Gabrielle, Ivana, Neema and Amon; great grandchildren, Alaijha and Hailey; cousins, Louise and Kevin Randall and Synthia Walton; nieces, Kathy McKinney Franks (Barron), Natalie Preston-Washington (Jeffrey), Nichole Augusta Amiel, Monica, Monique, and Dominique McKinney; nephew, Derrick Seward; great nieces, Bariane Franks, Zaria and Zoey Cromartie and Ayden Wilcox; great nephews, Adrian Wilcox and Luke Washington; special friend, Peggy Patterson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
