March 20, 1936 – March 16, 2021
On March 16, 2021, Carlos D. Cortijo was called to eternal rest at the age of 84. Carlos was a son, brother, uncle, father and a friend to many. Carlos was born in San Juan Puerto Rico and was raised in San Dulce, with his mother Baudilia Saquebo and sisters Rosa and Senovia. In 1948, they would migrate to Brooklyn, New York where he would complete his education and join the United States Army and was in the Korean War.He became an entrepreneur and owned a grocery store and managed a liquor store in Brooklyn. He later worked at Tiffany and Co. He eventually retired and moved to Tampa where he enjoyed baseball and spending time with family and friend in the Belmont Heights Community. He was also a member of the Pentecostal Church of God (Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal). In his later years, he lived and became a part of the Senior Point Assisted Living Facility family where he eventually entered into eternal rest. He was blessed with 4 children: Carlos Cortijo Jr., Nancy Cortijo-Simmonds (Leon Simmonds), Samuel Cortijo (Marcia Cortijo), Ana Victoria Cortijo-Calamani (Giovanni Batista Calamani), 10 Grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren: Vanessa Kataliko, (Moise Kataliko, Elycia Platel) Kristina Price (Benny Price; Ny-aela, Zaniyah, and Kayleenda); Bianca Cortijo (Axel Pierre); Geoffrey Gary (Lukas & Zoey Gary); Joseph Ari Simmonds; JuanCarlos Esteban Simmonds; Dyne' Lyne' Edmondson (Richard Edmondson), Shaw-nae Dinora Cortijo; Zoe Victoria Calamani, Roberto Isaias Calamani. He leaves his loving sister Rosa Ramos (Victor Ramos), Cousin Enrique Kike Cortes (Millie), Nieces: Sylvia Mulkowsky (Louis), Milagros Rosas, Yvette Rivera, Janet Miranda, Rosie Henry, and many more grandnieces and grandnephews.
