Catherine
Johnson
January 29, 1931 – July 31, 2023
Catherine Johnson was born January 29, 1931, in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, to the late Theodes James Mitchell and to the late Katherine Elizabeth Kelly-Mitchell. Catherine loved listening to gospel music, serving God and taking care of her family and others. When Catherine was born, God created a light so bright that it shined for ninety-two years. Although her vessel is no longer here on Earth, that same light shines within everyone she loved. Catherine was more than a woman, she was a monarch, a philanthropist, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and most importantly a woman of God. Anyone who knew her knows that she had a flare for style. There was never a pair of high heels or mink coat that she could resist. She taught us all dreams are obtainable through hard work and dedication. This is not goodbye; this is a salute to our angel. We love you. Take your rest, but God loves you best.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodes and Katherine Mitchell; sisters, Dorothy Banks, and Elizabeth Mitchell; brothers, Charlie, Donald, and James Mitchell.
She leaves behind cherished memories to her children, Judith Irene Mitchell, Darlene Annette Akbar, Howard Johnson, Jr., Deborah JoAnn Johnson, and Lisa Lorraine Richardson-Barksdale; grandchildren, Kimberly Anita Akbar (Maurice), Ericka Wiley (George), Khalidah Akbar, Shariah Stevenson (Jimmie), Badia Curry (Dupree), Sascha Johnson, Kellie Johnson, Aneesah Akbar, Raja Akbar, Tenaya Syles Wright (Michael), William "Christopher" Morris, Casey Johnson, Marselles E. McCray and Joshuya Turner-Johnson; nineteen great-grandchildren; eleven great great-grandchildren; nieces, Donna Mae Williams, Carol Glass, Linda Banks, Diane, Darlene and Michelle Mitchell; nephews, Duane Banks, and Tyrone Mitchell, and a host of other relatives and friends.
