Celebration of life and love in memory of Bro. Charlie Rufus Hubbard, Sr., of 2607 E. Ida St., who passed away on Tuesday, July 13th, will be held on Saturday, July 17th at 10:30 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, 5604 Brown Street, Zephyrhills, FL, Pastor Eddie A. Nunn, Sr., officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Tampa. Bro. Charlie Hubbard, Sr., was born on April 23, 1923, in St. Marys, GA, and resided in Tampa for a number of years. He attended public school in Camden County, GA, and later enlisted in the US Army serving in WWII gallantly as a hatch-foreman sharp shooter and he received various medals. Most recently he was honored by the Buffalo Soldiers at their Military 11th Annual Ball, May 2010. After he was discharged from the military, he worked several years as the captain of a shrimp boat out of Texas, MS and South America. He was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He sang in the male chorus and was very active with the fundraising for Vacation Bible School. He was a devoted father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed going to church, singing, listening to music and playing Uno. He was preceded in death by his father, Enoch Henry Hubbard; mother, Fannie Hubbard; brothers, Cecil Hubbard and Wendell Hubbard. He leaves to cherish his memories his sons, Charlie R. Hubbard, Jr., Tampa, Wendell Hubbard (Barbara), Inglewood, CA, and Alford Hubbard (Jeanette), Valdosta, GA; daughters, Bridgette Thompson, Pascagola, MS, Deborah Gano, Tampa, Linda Carr, Decatur, AL, Sharon Thornton, Tuscaloosa, AL and Julia McKinney, Decatur, AL; grandchildren, Shelby Hubbard, Baton Rouge, LA, Charlene Hubbard, St. Marys, GA, Wendell Hubbard, III, San Tan Valley, AZ, Dawn Hubbard, Valdosta, GA, Leslie Stacks (Michael), Columbia, SC, James Conyers, Lake City, FL and Samantha Collins, Jacksonville, FL; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Galvin, Jacksonville, FL and Vivian Hubbard, St. Marys, GA; devoted friend Doris Hubbard; special friends, Albert Holton, Clarence Holton, Milton and Claressa Johnson; and a host of other sorrowing relatives and friends. The viewing will be held on Friday, July 16th from 5-8 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m. Family and friends are asked to meet at the church by 10:15 a.m. Saturday.
