Obituary

Claretha, affectionately known as "TT", a cherished mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, entered eternal rest leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and dedication that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Claretha's life was a testament to her devotion to family, her deep commitment to her faith, and her compassion for everyone she encountered. Born into a lineage of AME preachers, Claretha grew up immersed in the teachings of both the church of God in Christ and the AME church. Her upbringing was steeped in faith, inspired by her mother, a lifelong member of College Hill Church of God in Christ. Claretha went on to become a minister's wife, first to Frank Fayson and later, from 1975 to 1992, to Rev. Ronald A. Christopher, a devoted AME pastor. Through these relationships, she served as a source of strength and grace, supporting her husbands and their congregations with steadfast faith.

A dedicated professional, Claretha was a trained and licensed cosmetologist, a career that allowed her to build lasting friendships and enrich the lives of many. With determination and resilience, she completed the TCEPT program, making history in 1969 as one of the first black employees at what was then Westinghouse. Claretha remained with the company through its evolutions and corporate changes, including its eventual transformation into Time Warner, until her retirement in 1999, marking 30 years of dedicated service.

Outside of her work, Claretha's life was filled with faith, happiness, peace and joy. She was an active participant in a bowling league, finding joy in simple pleasures and camaraderie. She also believed in enriching her children's lives with culture, introducing them to the beauty of the Ringling Museum of Art, the Historic Kapok Tree, and the Serene Beach Towers. Known throughout her community as a compassionate and prayerful woman, Claretha had a gift for making others feel seen, heard, and loved. Her hugs, as many would say, were healing, and her prayers were life-changing for those blessed enough to receive them. Claretha was a modest, elegant woman, always encouraging others to "keep it decent and in order", a reflection of her values and grace. Claretha's faith in the Lord was her foundation and even in moments of memory lapse, she never forgot the name of Jesus. Her unwavering love for him was a beacon of hope and strength to all who knew her.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and faith that will endure in the hearts of her family, friends, and community forever. In Claretha's honor, may we carry forward her love for the Lord, her compassion, and her gentle spirit, remembering that her legacy lives on in each act of kindness, each prayer, and each embrace. She is survived by her devoted children, Frankie S. Fayson III (LaKay), Bryant A. Fayson, Sr. (Erica), and Esther Thornton (Alfonso); grandchildren, Shawlonda Hallback (Bea), Sherri L. Saffore (Andre), Jermaine T. Johnson (Claudette), Imani, Niara, Anthony, Bryonne, and Bryson Fayson, Ryan K. Martin (Cleao P.H.), and Evan C. Lawson; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, who will continue to honor her memory and legacy.
