Darele Brown
Campbell
August 19, 1957 – July 19, 2023
It was a sweltering summer day, in Tampa, Florida when the now late Calvin and Ruth Harvey Brown welcomed their daughter, Darele Felicia Brown, into the world on August 19, 1957. As an only child, she was the center of attention and gained exposure to the benefits of hard work, dedication, and Gods love. As a child, she accepted Christ and was baptized at New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. In later years, her spiritual devotion continued through her affiliation with the International Harvest Center.
Dareles early education was in private schools in Hillsborough County where she graduated in 1974 from Tampa Catholic High School. Influenced by the elders in the family to attend a Historically Black College and University, Darele entered Spelman College in the fall of 1974 before transferring to Florida A&M University in the summer of 1975. There she followed in her fathers footsteps to study Pharmacy and earn a Bachelor of Science degree in 1978. While matriculating through pharmacy school, Darele was on the bowling team, active in School of Pharmacy initiatives, and initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Beta Alpha Chapter, propelling her to a lifetime of sisterhood and community service.
Upon graduation, Darele returned to Tampa to begin her lifelong career as a pharmacist with College Hill Pharmacy, her familys independent pharmacy. In addition to being a full-time retail pharmacist, in 1979, she became an active member of the Gamma Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated where she served on and/or lead numerous committees and achieved Lifetime Membership and the status of Silver Star with 25 years of service.
During her first marriage, Darele gave birth to her first child, a daughter, Lauren Darele Fleming in 1985. Two years later, her son Gregory H. Fleming II was born. Then in 1993, Darele married the love of her life, Ray Campbell in a private ceremony. Throughout their 30-year union, the couple was known for their community involvement where they worked hard and played hard. They enjoyed time with family and friends and enjoyed hosting lavish parties, often leading line dances to help everyone have a good time. Additionally, they shared adventures through their world travels.
Aside from family, work, church, and sorority engagements, Dareles true love was singing. She trained her voice through voice lessons and learned to project her sultry jazz tone. She shared this gift as a performer at events around the Tampa area. She also chiseled time to leave her mark on several organizations including Jack and Jill of America, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Onyx Ski & Sports Club of Tampa Bay where she was a 5-term immediate past president, Ladies of Leisure (LOL), Tampa Chapter, Spelman Alumni Association and Quettes.
It was July 19, 2023, a sweltering summer day in Tampa, Florida when Darele Brown Campbell, after a life well-lived, took her last breath and transitioned to spend eternity with our Heavenly Father.
Cherishing her life and beautiful memories, Darele leaves her loving and devoted husband Raymond S. Campbell, two children, Lauren Darele Ward (Charles) of Kansas City, MO, and Gregory Fleming II of Washington DC, her pride and joy, granddaughter Charli Noelle Ward of Kansas City, MO, step-son Quentin Campbell (Becky) of Orlando, FL; three aunts, Gustava Harvey, Dorothy Evelyn Keel and Mildred Hanna and two uncles George Brown Sr. and Sam Brown; cousins Florence Reeves of Seattle, WA, Sonja Harvey McCoy, Kermit Harvey, Gail Simmons, Maurice Harvey, J.
