Darien Lamont
Henry
May 12, 2000 – June 1, 2025
This world has lost a bright and beautiful light with the unexpected passing of Darien Lamont Henry at the age of 25 on June 1, 2025.
Darien was born on May 12, 2000, in Chicago, Illinois, to Asia Graves and Leon Henry. From a young age, Darien was known for his bright smile, playful spirit, and kind heart. Known by his nicknames "Lil Chico" and "Nip," Darien brought a special presence that lit up every room he walked into. He spent his early childhood in Chicago, surrounded by the energy of the city and the early bonds of family and community. As life brought changes, his mother, Asia, made the decision to move the family to Madison/Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, in pursuit of new opportunities and a better environment for her sons. It was there that Darien formed meaningful and lasting friendships, including lifelong bonds with Keandre and Patrick, who would become like brothers to him. In 2017, shortly after the passing of Darien's beloved grandmother, Corthea Graves, Asia made the decision to relocate once more, this time to Tampa, Florida. Motivated by a desire to be closer to family and to leave behind the harsh Midwestern winters, she sought a fresh start for herself and her sons. In Tampa, Asia, Darien, and Deon found not only a warmer climate but also a renewed sense of comfort, stability, and the embrace of extended family. It was there that they began building new memories together in a place that quickly felt like home.
Darien attended South County Career Center, where he not only pursued his education but also formed meaningful relationships, including meeting his longtime girlfriend, Esmeralda "LaLa" Jara. Their bond grew stronger over the years and she became an important part of his life. Shortly after graduating, Darien began working at Chadwell Supply, where he remained for over five years. During his time there, he earned a reputation as a dependable, hardworking, and motivated individual. Darien was highly respected for his strong work ethic and dedication. To Darien, Chadwell wasn't just a workplace, the employees became like a second family to him, and he treated them with the same loyalty and care he showed his loved ones. His dedication did not go unnoticed, he left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him. His presence will be deeply missed, not just as a coworker, but as a cherished friend.
Darien also had a deep love for basketball, music, cars, exercising, reading, and playing video games, interests that brought him both joy and connection. In his free time, he loved playing video games alongside his younger brother, Deon, sharing laughter and friendly competition. He could often be found at a nearby court or gym, shooting hoops with his friends and embracing the energy of the game he loved. Above all, Darien deeply loved his family and his siblings, and he expressed that love through his constant support, thoughtful presence, and unwavering generosity. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation. Whether offering a listening ear, helping without being asked, or simply showing up when it mattered most, Darien's actions spoke louder than words. His maturity, compassion, and willingness to give of himself were qualities far beyond his years, leaving a lasting impact on those closest to him.
Darien's sudden passing was a heartbreaking shock to all who knew him. He was healthy, happy, and had so much more life to live. Darien's life is a reminder of how precious and fragile life truly is. Though he may be gone, Darien's spirit will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
