Darryl Randall Barnes, Sr. affectionally known as "Pop" to family and friends, was one of four sons born on March 11, 1962, to the late David Theodore Barnes, Sr. and Geneva "Sam" Barnes.

Darryl was born and raised in Miami, Florida, where he matriculated through grade school and graduated from Miami Jackson Senior High School in 1980. After graduation, he moved to Tampa and attended Tampa Technical College, where he earned a technical degree in Electronics. He was knowledgeable and quite skilled. Once he completed technical school, he worked as a field technician for a plethora of companies for over forty years. In 2009, he pursued a career in landscaping. Because of his love for people, in addition to operating a lawn care business, he sought great pleasure in being a parking lot attendant whenever events were held downtown Tampa. After courting Brenda Jackson for quite some time, they decided to give love a chance. On June 28, 1996, they joined in holy matrimony. For 27 years their love stood the test of time. Of all the jobs Darryl has held, his greatest occupation was that of a father and grandfather. Being a "Pa Pa" to 18 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild was a role he did not take lightly. He was sure not to miss a birthday party, sporting event, grandparents' day, school drop off or pick up, or any milestones for that matter. His personality was infectious, and once you met him, he was unforgettable. Death is so uncertain, but one thing is for sure, his love for Christ prepared him for life on the other side. His rearing in church developed at an early age and continued until the end of his earthly life. As a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of College Hill, he served faithfully. On January 31, 2024, God said my good and faithful servant, you have run your race, you have finished your course, WELL DONE!

His memories are cherished with his loving and devoted wife Brenda; mother Geneva; children Trenise, Davaria (Jarrett), Demetrise, Darryl Jr. (Taquanna), Quanta, Chacanwha (Javon), and Masha; grandchildren Jym'myla, Donte, Kenyan, Nhoja, Harmoni, Anaarah, Jahannah, Jase, Timothy, Taniyah, Javon, Destiny, Jaquan, Quintreveon, Daniel, Curtoria, Daveon, Dashaun; one great-granddaughter, Za'Maharia, his siblings David, Devery, Dwight, and Danielle; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
