David Leonard
Mills
February 10, 1955 – February 24, 2024
Mr. David Leonard Mills, 69, departed this life unexpectedly on February 24, 2024, in a local hospital. Mr. Mills was a native of Tampa, Florida. He
attended the historical segregation era Dobyville Elementary School as a child and completed his education in the Hillsborough County School
system earning his High School Diploma. As a young child, he attended New Salem Missionary Baptist Church with his family. Mr. Mills had an interest in filmmaking as a child. This passion grew in him well into adulthood. His dream of one day becoming a famous filmmaker was his ultimate desire. As a young man, he dabbled in making short films where he had family members as well as himself portray different characters. He was once interviewed by a local newspaper showcasing his talents. Mr. Mills was a very caring and compassionate person. He believed in helping someone if they were in trouble. Not many people were aware of his kind heart. He was a private person, and those who loved him affectionately referred to him as "Bossy". David moved to Los Angelos, California in the mid-1970s where he worked in the health care profession for several years until an unfortunate accident occurred and rendered him paralyzed. He then returned home to Tampa, Florida where he resided until his death.
Mr. Mills was preceded in death by his parents, father Edward Mannie Mills Sr. and mother Mrs. Ella Mae Fleming Mills.
He leaves to mourn his passing: a brother, Edward M. Mills Jr. (Brenda), sisters Glennie Mae Ware of New York, Barbara Mills Hawkins, Linda Mills (Mia); nephews, Douglas Turnage, Jimmie Lee Marshall Jr., Michael Wilson, and Edward Mills III; nieces: Lisa Sims, Loretta Marshall, Faith Pullen (Stanislaus), Cheryl Mills, Anya Alvarado, Amber West, Denise Parker, Serena Mills; Dear Friend, Ms. Netta Thompson, and a host of great nephews and nieces, grieving relatives and friends.
