Homegoing services for Bro. David Porter, Sr. "Lump" who passed away, Friday, April 1, 2011, will be held Saturday, April 9th, 2:00 p.m., 29th Street Church of Christ, 3310 N. 29th Street, Bro. Hayward Books, officiating minister. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. David Porter, Sr. was born on February 5, 1922, in Brownwood, Georgia, to the parents of the late, Isaiah Porter and Alice Carrington Porter. Mr. Porter enjoyed watching soap operas and football. He was preceded in death by his parents; Isaiah and Alice Porter; son, Robert Porter; brothers, Mammon and Charlie Porter; sisters, Addie Bell Porter-Irwing and daughter-in-law, Corrine Porter. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 70 years, Bessie Porter; children, Mattie James (Emmett), Nettie Dennis (George), David Porter, Jr., Charles Porter (Frankie), Betty Warren (Freddie), Marvin Porter (May Jean) of Panama City, Florida, Minnie Davis (Willie) of Zwolle, Louisiana, Bessie Carradine, Nadine Williams, Addie Johnson, Delores Johnson (Leonard) of Yucca Valley, CA, Russell Porter (Tarkesha), Sara Porter and Jimmy Porter; 35 grandchildren, Bridget, Jeanette, Phyllis, Vivian, George, Sara, Jimmy, George Homer, Jr. (Cheryl), Kathy, William Jo Dennis, Cheryl, James, Charles, Theophilus, Charmange, Angela (Norman), Priscilla (Tony), Lonnie (Tasha), Ronnie (Kate), Kenya, Rhonda, Freddie Jr., Bronkelly (Kindra), Daniel, David, Lesley, Virturous, Voncelia, Kiona, Jayfrey, Depraine, Lathario, Kimeka, Aisha, Elijah, Tony, Jeromy, Russell Jr., and Rushaun; 70 great grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Marshall Nelson and Frances Lamar; great grandnieces and great grandnephews, Marlena, Knight, Lekeisha, Nobles, Senitea Dennis, Kenny Lewis, Timothy, Coney, Tevin Coney, Andru Barnum, Derrick Knight, Sonja, Linda, Mary Alice, Janice, Sylvia, Edwin Isaiah, Otis, Willie Jr., Arthur Lee, Brother Nelson and Katherine Baling; a host of great, great grandnieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Johnny Johnson of Newark, NJ; sister-in-law, Rosetta Holder of Dawson, GA; cousin, Ron Taylor and wife; and a host of other sorrowing relative and friends. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday evening. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church at 1:45 p.m. for the service on Saturday.
