David was born on May 22, 1949, in San Francisco, CA., to Forrest Woods and Helen M. Hicks. He loved running, riding his bike, collecting coins, country music, working with his hands, playing with his great grandchildren, watching Star Trek, and old western movies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest Woods and Helen M. Hicks; stepfather, Charlie Hicks; previous spouses, Gladys Ruth Hicks, and Carol Miller; brother, James William Woods; sisters, Judy M. Hicks Higgins, and Deborah A. Hicks Irelan.

He leaves precious memories with his children, Liela Mae Oldaker, Wanda Lynn Azor, and Kristie Hatcher Miller; grandchildren, Autumn Oldaker, Jami Grooms, Courtney Oldaker, Jamie Miller, and Kyle Miller; great grandchildren, Christopher Vanmeter, Hunter Grooms, Jesse Jennings, Emma Grooms, Jonah Jennings, and Landry Grooms; brother, Larry Weaver Woods; sisters, Charlene Wilkins, and Brenda Woods; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.
