Obituary

Deacon Willie Charles "Bunk" Allen was born on November 18, 1943, in Live Oak, Florida, to the late Roy and Roosevelt Allen. He was the ninth of ten children. On February 27, 1963, he joined the U.S. Army, where he served honorably for two years in the Infantry, followed by four years in the Military Police with the National Guard in Washington, D.C. Professionally, Deacon Allen dedicated 30 years to Giant Food Warehouse, where he held multiple roles throughout his long tenure. A man of deep faith and devotion to family, he was a committed member of Paramount Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., where he actively participated in worship and community events. Known for his musical talent, he often played the guitar at various churches and special gatherings. In 2002, Deacon Allen relocated from Washington, D.C., to Tampa, Florida, to enjoy his retirement. His life reflected his love for God, family, and service.

He was preceded in death by his beloved children, Shelia Allen-Bryant, Charles Allen; brothers, Brian Allen, Lee O. Allen, Earnest Allen, and Roy "Joe" Allen; as well as his cherished sisters, Johnny Mae Abrams, Verdell Allen, and Mamie Floyd.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his devoted family, including his devoted son-in-law, Tyrone Bryant; loving grandchildren, Derek (Domonique) Allen and Tyrone (Jade) Bryant; and his adored great-grandchildren, Dynisty Allen, Derek (D.J.) Allen, Jr., and Amara Bryant. He is also survived by his dear siblings, Ruth Bryant and Dea. Eugene Allen, Sr. (Carol); nieces, Delores Cherry, Patricia (Earl) Sims, Tia (Nate) Allen, Yolanda (Steve) Smith; nephews, Willie (Lisa) Cherry, Wesley (Marsha) Floyd, Jr., Earnest Cherry, Sr., Eugene Allen, Jr., Orlando "Andre" Allen, and Stevie Bryant; along with a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, and many great-great-nieces and nephews who will continue to honor his memory. Mr. Allen also shared a special bond with neighbors and close friends, Larry Brown, Dea. Riley and Sis. Riley, whose friendship and support were deeply valued throughout his life.
