Deacon Freddie
J. Brinson, Sr
November 16, 1941 – December 9, 2010
Homegoing celebration for Deacon Freddie J. Brinson, Sr., of Tampa, who made a peaceful transition on Thursday, December 9, 2010, will be held Saturday, December 18, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Cathedral of Faith Church, Bishop James Howell, Pastor, 6304 N. 30th St. with Pastor Johnnie Miller, of Friendly Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Deacon Brinson was born on November 16, 1941 in Sneads, Florida, to the late Jim and Lena Brinson. He accepted Christ at an early age. He was one of the original members of Friendly M. B. Church, and over the years served in many positions as the Chairman of the Deacon Board, a Trustee, a member of the Finance Committee, a Sunday School Teacher, a Youth Mentor, and a member of the Brotherhood, as well as a Member of Choir Number Three, the Webb's Chorus, and the Miller Male Chorus. He retired as a Longshoreman (ILA Local 1402) after 44 years of service, and continued to fellowship with brothers as a member of the Longshoreman's Hour. He was a Center and Nose Guard for the Howard W. Blake High School football team "Yellow Jackets," and football remained one of his favorite pass times. At one time he was a Little League Football Coach and a delegate for the National Baptist Convention. Deacon Brinson also took great pleasure in hunting and fishing, and most of all discussing the Bible and being a witness for Christ. As a strong man of faith his philosophy was, "Have Your Way, Lord." He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Jim Brinson and Mrs. Lena Brinson, his sister, Mrs. Annie Ruth Hicks Dowdle, and a brother, Elder Tony Brinson.
