Deacon J.
L. Wilburn
June 12, 1949 – March 22, 2020
A Homegoing Celebration for the immediate family of Deacon J.L. Wilburn of Tampa, Florida who passed away on, March 22, 2020, will be held on Thursday, March 26th, 11:00 a.m., Rev. Leroy Huff, officiating. The interment will be held in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Deacon J.L. Wilburn was born June 12, 1949 to Wyart and Nellie Mae Wilburn in Doerun, Georgia. He was joined in holy matrimony to Ovedia Davis in 1975. Deacon J.L. lived in Clearwater and Tampa, Florida. He graduated with a master's degree in education from the University of Arkansas. He was a high school math teacher and track coach, until he retired from teaching a few years ago. He was filled with the Holy Ghost when he was very young and attended Solid Rock Apostolic Church, under the leadership of Pastor Ovedia Wilburn, where he was a faithful deacon and superintendent of Sunday School and the church's treasurer. His love for God's word and the church was ever present. He always had a gentle and loving smile for everyone and willing to help anyone. He was a very special and caring husband and father to his sons, grandchildren and loved ones. When he set his mind to certain goals, he achieved them. He was kind, humble and easy going. He will certainly be missed by his loving family forever and treasured by: his wife, Ovedia Wilburn; 3 devoted children, Jay El Wilburn (Cassandra), Jason Wilburn (Ashley) and Jesulene Brown (Jay); 5 grandsons, Jason, Isaac, Jacob, Aiden and Reuben; 3 dedicated brothers, Wyart, Jr., Jimmy L., and Eddie Wilburn; 1 sister, Gladys Pitts; 3 aunts, Maxine, Mary Nell and Rose; 1 brother-in-law, Arthur Davis (Loraine); 1 sister-in-law, Laura Philips (Benny); and a host of family members and friends; special thanks to my loyal cousin, Angie who constantly called on us and to all the other loving relatives. A limited visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Due to recent events, the number of attendees topublic and private gatherings (including funerals/memorial services)has been limited. We invite you to join a live streaming of this homegoing celebration.
