Obituary

Deaconess Jacquelyn James was born November 1, 1936, in Tampa, FL, and attended the public schools of Hillsborough County, graduating from Middleton High School in 1955. She married her high school sweetheart, the late Deacon Andrew James, in 1957 after 6 years of courtship. They remained in this union for 54 plus years until his demise in March 2012. They were the parents of  three wonderful sons.  Deaconess James was a member of First Baptist Church of College Hill for more than 60 years. Jacquelyn retired from Graybar Electric Company after 28 years of employment.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Andrew James, Sr.; oldest son, Andrew James, Jr. "Two Man"; youngest son, Marlon N. James, Sr.; father, Deacon Amos Butler; mother and stepfather, Arbie and Gladys Howard; sister, Gloria Richadean Everett; favorite aunt, (Like a Mother) Edith Sails. Jacquelyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin and had many friends who will lament her homegoing.

Deaconess James leaves to cherish loving and fond memories with her son, Daryl James of Hampton, VA; grandchildren, Letonya James, Marlon James, Jr., Dominique James, and Monique James, all of Newport News, VA; Mahogany James, Clermont, FL; Andre (Marilyn) James of McDonough, GA; and Jabari James of Tampa, FL; great-grandchildren, Aleysia, Arriana, Amir, Avaya, Kaleim, Madison, Kenya, Tyvel, Andrew, Quentin, and Malachi, all of VA, Ethan and Jaden of McDonough, GA; daughter-in-law, Alison James;  special cousins, Arnold and Dorothy Sails; nieces and nephews, Cynthia Ellison, Cheryl (James) Tisdale, Alvin (Diane) Davis, and Ifeyinya Davis; grand-nieces and nephews, Nicole Wilson, Arbie Wilson, Erika Solomon, Tashianna (Demond) Bryant, Kaylan (Ralph) Ross, Yandelala, Angelise, Anisia, Monticello, Ande Davis, Vivica Saddler, Noah, Ify, Michael and Ike; cousins,  Sails,  Gambrells,  Jones,  Hills,  Heights, and the Hudleys; a special thank you to Deacon. Arnold and Deaconess Dorothy Sails;  Deaconess Cheryl and Deacon James Tisdale; Deacon Clarence and Deaconess Mary Major; Deacon Ronald and Deaconess Doris Hull; Deacon Leonard and Deaconess Patricia Baker; and Sister Fannie Keith and Mrs. Alison James.
