Obituary

Homegoing services for Mrs. Della Melvin of Tampa who passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2013, will be held on Saturday, October 26th, 1:30 p.m. at Cathedral of Faith Church, Inc., 6304 N. 30th Street, Apostle James H. Howell, pastor; Dr. Victor Ball, pastor of Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Orange Hill Cemetery. Della was born January 17, 1923 in Dawson, Georgia to the late John and Lillie Robinson. Della was a faithful member of Oak Hill M.B. Church. She wed Henry Melvin to whom she affectionately referred to as "Doll" for 54 years until his death. Her greatest pleasure was derived from preparing delicious meals for her family and friends. Della touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed, though her sweet spirit will live with us forever. Della was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry Melvin, Sr. and son, Henry Melvin, Jr. She leaves to cherish her loving memories with children, Johnny Melvin (Brenda), Milton Melvin (Geraldine), Gwendolyn Webster (George), Joyce Elaine Melvin-Plair (Freddie) and Henrietta Bell (Kenneth); grandchildren, Diane Crecy (Rodney), Sheila Johnson, Sharok Whitehead, Jimmy Walker, Cedric Walker (Rhondalyn), Johnny Walker, Angel Melvin, George Bostic (Wendy), Gorgeous Riley (Daryn), Trinette Webster, Zaviera V. Blount, Dominique Plair (Art), Xavier Stewart, Marquis Stewart, Monique Stewart Hires (Marcus), Elaine Hires (Austin), Stanley Melvin, Alexis Roberts, Ashley Melvin, Joshua Bell, Tony Bell, Traina Holton, Ramon Taylor and Toinette Gaines (Tony); a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and great great great grandchildren; a loving nephew, John Mitchell (Wynell); special friends, Ella Evans, Janie Renfro and Mary Ann Wilborn; and a host of other relatives and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, October 25th from 5 to 8 p.m. the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the Cathedral of Faith Church, Inc. on Saturday for the service.
