Homegoing services for Mr. Deloris Simmons-Brinson of Tampa, FL who passed away July 23, 2015 will be held Friday, August 7th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The internment will follow. Ms. Deloris Simmons-Brinson "Panna" was born January 14, 1940 in Tampa, Florida to the late Walter Slater and Lillie Simmons-Shanks. She was the last of three children, Ruth Simmons Head and Hinton J. Simmons preceded her in death. Deloris affectionately known to all as "Panna", gave up her career in 1968 to take care of her sister, Ruth who was diagnosed with Lupus and lovingly help to raise her six children, Michael, Reggie, Denise, Valencia, Barbara and Milton who were underage at the time. "Panna" attended Hillsborough County Public Schools, She later obtained her LPN license while caring for her sister. She was known for her interior decorating, floral arrangements and baking especially pecan pie. She was also known for her knowledge of the Lord and received her Ministers license a few years ago. She inspired others to seek God and often quoted her famous saying: "God loves you and so do I". She enjoyed reading and writing poetry was her "heart". She dreamed of writing a story about her life, as well as opening a center called the "Rainbow of Hope", which gives encouragement, helps build self-esteem and confidence in young people. On July 24, 2015, God called his Angel-our "Aunt Panna" home to be with him. She leaves to cherish her memories with her sister, Debra Shanks; brothers, David Curtis and Moses Ashley; nephews and nieces, Michael Roberts, Reginald Roberts (Katrina), Denise Head-Curenton (Victor), Valencia Head Washington-Gilbert (Myron), Barbara Head-Burke (Tyrone) and Milton; grand nephews and nieces, Yvette Oliphant (Bryant), Darius Clark (Angela), Derrick Roberts (Jennell), Denecia Resto (Joe), Thomisa Curenton (Rick) Devon Curenton, Darin Washington (DeWanda), Larry Nickerson, Arthella Clark (Keya), Johnathan Burke, Kimberly Burke & Jasmine Burke, Derek Smith, Angel Jones and Milton Jones, Jr.; great grand nieces and nephews, De'Joun Taylor, Bryant, Naturi and Anaijah Oliphant, Darius's & Derricks children, Tonesha Curenton, Luis Gonzalez, Amari, darin, Jr., Eva, Naomi & McKenzie Washington; Jada Clarke, Tahj Burke and Jhaliex Jones; cousins, Barbara Himes, Margie Richardson, Dornell Simmons (Tricia), LuEster Simmons, Annette Simmons-Burroughs, Athel Simmons, Crystal Simmons Mcloud, Jocelyn Williams, Tracey Larry Cole (Bradley), Carla Howard, Regina Shine (Adrian), Anita Kelly (Cisco), Sharia Dornell, Jr., Joseph and Jeremiah Simmons and a very dear friend, Carol Bebley and a host of relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:30 on Friday.
