Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Derick Sylvester Smithen, "Big D" of Tampa who passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015, will be held on Saturday, March 21st, 2:00 p.m. at The Word of Grace and Truth Ministries, 3001 E. Hanna Ave., Dr. Thomas L. Dozier, pastor with Elder Ernest Helm, officiating and Elder Frank L. Wynn, eulogist. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Derick was born November 5, 1953 in St. Christopher, Jamaica to the late Clarence and Ilene Smithen. Derick was a longtime employee of ASIG, Tampa International Airport for 30 years. He enjoyed watching karate movies, eating and having fun with his grandchildren and working. He leaves in his untimely passing a loving wife, Dorothy Smithen; 4 sons, Dexter Smithen, Devon Smithen, David Smith and Leon Nisbett Smithen; 3 daughters, Deon Sweeney, Evoni Shippy (Dalbert) and Nekisha Bailey (Faran); grandchildren, Daniel Smithen, Jamisha, Javionna and Jayla Haynes; brothers, Charles Gaten; sister, Adbreal Brown; father-in-law, Paul J. Reynolds; brothers-in-law, Paul Reynolds (Diann), Aaron Reynolds (Virginia), Johnny Frank Reynolds, Lorenzo Bradshaw (Janice) and Wardell Bradshaw; sisters-in-law, Ozzie Ashley and Juanita Reynolds; aunt-in-law, Ossie Adams; cousins, Clyde Audain and Dexter Cane; special friends, David Bridgewater, Sue Kelley, Betina and Brandon Kelley, Jeff and Kathleen Marshall, Eithen Morrison, Demetris Lamont Simmons, Greenpond, SC, and the Arthy, Thompson, Hampton, and Jackson families; co-workers of ASIG of Tampa International Airport; and a host of nieces, nephews, other cousins, relatives, neighbors and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, March 20th, from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church for the service.
