Obituary

Mr. Derrick Gene Hall was born on January 12, 1968, in Panama City, Florida, to his mother Catherine Pittman Yawn and the late Tom Hall. Derrick attended Hillsborough High School, where he played football, was a member of the school band, and participated in JROTC: early signs of the spirit, discipline, and charisma that would shape the man he became. He later attended Brewster High School, where he obtained his GED. Master Craftsman at heart, Derrick helped shape Sew Right Auto Upholstery, where his talent, creativity, and "handy" nature shined. Over time, he built a legacy for over 35 years. Whether he was transforming a car interior, fixing something no one else could figure out, or teaching someone how to do it themselves, Derrick gave generously of his time and skill. Upholstery wasn't just his work, it was his passion. Beyond his craft, Derrick loved the simple joys: playing pool, listening to music, playing spades, and laughing with friends and family. He approached life with humor, gentleness, and a selfless heart. Derrick was known for being loving, funny, gentle, and deeply selfless; traits that made everyone feel at ease in his presence.

He was preceded in death by his father, Tom Hall, and his sister, Letha Levette Hall.

Derrick leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted significant other, Maddie Colon; his children, Angel Colon, DeVante Brinson, Kenneth Brazile, and Terry Smith; daughters, Desaka Thorton, Destiny Brinson, DeJanee Grant, DeShiria Brinson, and Latisha Gibbs; his mother, Catherine Pittman Yawn of Sarasota, Florida; brothers, Tommy Hall (Sherry) of Venice, Florida, and Adam Hall of Bradenton, Florida; sister, Kimmi Hall-Walker of Jacksonville, Florida; and his cherished grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved aunts, Ailer Mae Hall and Lee Etta Reeves; nieces, Dominique Hall, Akila Hall, Celena Walker, and Londyn Hall; nephews, Cedric Austin, Adam Hall II, Michael Walker, Devin Hall and Kaydance Hall; a host of loving cousins; and two treasured friends, Anthony Whitfield, close friend and Toni Ciancio, special family friend. Derrick touched countless lives with his kindness, humor, and unwavering love. He lived boldly, loved deeply, and stood firmly in who he was.

His family chose to include one of his favorite quotes, a reflection of the way he approached life: "If I fail, if I succeed, at least I lived as I believed." He will be missed by a loving host of family and friends, whose lives are forever enriched because of his impact.
