Homegoing Service for Mr. Dexter Hammond of Tampa who passed away Friday, November 9, 2012, will be held Saturday, November 17th, 10:30 a.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, Elder Phillip Dorsey, officiating. Interment will be in Orange Hill Cemetery. Dexter was born on December 6, 1959 in Sebring, Fl to Florence Hammonds and Herman Pugh. Dexter was educated in the public school of Sebring, FL and graduated from Robinson High School in Tampa, Fl in 1978. Dexter attended Edward Waters College for 2 years. He then enlisted in to the United States Marine Corp and served 12 years. After completing his commitment with the Marines he began serving other in the Hotel industry. He worked for Marriot Hotels and was still employed with Embassy Suites. Dexter was a devoted family man. He was loved by all who came in contact with him. He was kind and gentle and known for be "consistent" and was a "Rock". He went to work, went home, relaxed at home and woke up the next day and did it all again without every complaining. Dexter was a hard working provider. He loved to make you laugh with his witty charm. He was an avid joke and story teller and his face would light up as he would share a part of himself with you. Dexter was a peacemaker and often would remind you that "You can't make grown people do what they don't wanna do". He was a dedicated Marine and lived by Semper Fi which means "Always Loyal or Always Faithful". He was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Hammonds, and his father Herman Pugh. He leaves to his wife and friend of 31 years Brenda Joyce Hammond, Tampa, Florida; two sons Rechee (Tammy Williams), Tampa, Fl and Ahmad (Kasha Dixon) Mitchel, Tampa, Florida; one daughter Latasha Brown, Tampa, FL. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, November 16th from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Saturday for the service.
